Plans & limits
StyleRef has two plans, Free and Pro, plus limited anonymous access. Styles themselves are unlimited on both plans — what’s metered is credits, which pay for AI actions. To subscribe, go to styleref.io/pricing .
How credits work
Credits (◍) pay for the two AI actions:
- Generate StyleRef — compiling your style into the ready-to-use text block.
- Extract Style — the AI analysis that builds a style from your sources.
On the Free plan you receive 150 credits at signup, topped up with 40 free credits every month. Current costs on the free plan:

These costs are plan configuration, not fixed constants — each action’s live cost is shown on its button in the app before you run it, and that number is the authoritative one. On Pro, generation and extraction are unlimited with no credit accounting.

What the differences mean
- Credits — the Free allowance covers regular use; heavy extraction or generation runs it down, and it refills monthly. The app shows each action’s cost inline, and warns you before an action you can’t afford.
- AI tier — Free extractions run on Lite AI for a quick style read. Pro runs Advanced AI: a deeper analysis of your sources that produces a more complete extraction. See Extract a style.
- Extraction sources — everyone can extract from text and images; extracting from a PDF or document (a brand guideline, for example) is Pro-only.
- Downloads — both copying the compiled StyleRef to the clipboard and downloading it as a file (
.txt,STYLE.md,.json) are available on every plan. Export is never gated. - Version history — the Free plan keeps the last 10 snapshots of each style; Pro keeps the full history so you can review and roll back to any point.
Anonymous use
You can start building on the style board without an account — your work is kept in an anonymous session and migrates to your account when you sign up. Anonymous visitors can keep one style and run one free extraction, but must sign up (free) to generate the compiled StyleRef.
Limits in agents and automation
The same plan rules apply through the MCP server, REST API, and CLI. When an account-scoped action needs more credits or a Pro feature, the tool returns a message with a link to upgrade.
